Massage can be based on mechanical manipulation of body tissues and joints (western classical or medical massage) or massage can be based on touch
Massage is the practice of touching or of applying structured or unstructured pressure, tension, motion, or vibration — manually or with mechanical aids — to the soft tissues of the body, including
muscles,
connective tissue,
tendons,
ligaments,
joints,
lymphatic vessels and organs of the
gastrointestinal system to achieve a beneficial response. There are a number of different types of massage. Some of these are: Relaxation Massage, Remedial Massage, Sports Massage, Partner massage etc. The benefits vary from relaxing to energizing. Applications vary from massage for athletes who need high performance for muscles to massages for relaxation or wellness to therapeutic medical massages and massages that aim at providing better self-contact, enhance the body image and provide integration.
Massage Therapy is performed primarily by a professional
Massage Therapist but is often used as a form of
therapy by other Healthcare practitioners such as
Chiropractors,
Osteopaths and
Physical Therapists. Massage can be applied to parts of the body or successively to the whole body, to aid the process of
injury healing, relieve psychological
stress, manage
pain, and improve
circulation. When massage is used for its physiological, mental, and mechanical benefits, it is termed "therapeutic massage" or
manipulative therapy. In professional settings, massage involves the client being treated while lying on a
massage table, sitting upright in a
massage chair, or lying on a pad on the floor. Relaxation is necessary for benefits to be achieved.
Regent House produce a wide range of massage products which are already blended using a carefully chosen selection of essential oils diluted either in carrier oil, cream or as a soak for the bath. Some frequently asked questions about the massage ranges are below and we hope they will increase your knowledge about our massage oils, creams, rollerballs and soaks.
What is massage oil?
A massage oil is a pre-mixed blend which contains carrier oil such as Sweet Almond or Grapeseed and up to 5 essential oils.
What is massage cream?
A massage cream is a pre-mixed blend which contains cream base and up to 5 essential oils.
Why would my customers buy massage oil or cream rather than essential oils and carrier oil and why should I stock both?
The range of massage blends available includes Arthritis, Joints, Eczema, De-Tox as well as well being titles such as Relaxing, Warming & Uplifting and Sensual. Therefore your customers can quickly and easily relate to what they need to buy without any knowledge of essential oils and aromatherapy. The other reason why many people would choose these is that if they were to purchase each individual essential oil and then blend it at home in either cream or carrier oil the cost would be much higher whereas they can buy a 50ml bottle for about a fifth of what it might cost for each component separately.
What is the percentage of essential oil used in each blend?
A maximum of 10% to 90% of base is used as essential oils are very strong.
Why should I stock massage creams rather than oils?
The base of the cream is much less greasy than the oil and therefore some customers prefer this.
Why should I buy rollerballs when I have massage oils and the ingredients are the same?
Because the idea of a rollerball is to keep in your pocket and handbag and use easily and discreetly through the day when it’s not practical to take a large 50ml bottle with you.
Can pre blended products be used safely during pregnancy?
The answer is still the same for pre-blended treatments. Some essential oils can be dangerous during pregnancy so it’s always necessary to consult the individual data sheet on each oil before use and also to check with your GP or midwife.
